Lee Connor, the charismatic owner of Connor Honeycutt, takes little interest in the day-to-day management of his clients’ investment portfolios, preferring to enjoy the spoils of a successful career as a money manager.
The mystery begins when Cassie, the head stock trader at the money management firm, discovers an office colleague brutally murdered. She meets District of Columbia Homicide Detective, John Doolin, when he is assigned to the investigation.
Suspects swirl around the case, as a senior portfolio manager has suddenly gone missing, and the remaining three managers all have hidden agendas and secrets to protect. But every one of them neglects to mention to Detective Doolin, the other employee on the payroll, Lee’s mysterious friend Mac Tyler – a rough-edged Irishman whose work assignments seem unusual – to say the least.
The first of the Cassie Doolin mystery series, the Land of the Blind unfolds with the violent death of Gregg Hudson, then the disappearance of Reed Crowley, followed by the discovery of a mysterious note that could suggest IRA involvement at the firm. Finally, there is a slashing, bloody attack at Cassie’s country cabin, but no victim can be found there, only destruction.
Lee Connor unexpectedly travels to London, summoned to attend a clandestine meeting by his business colleagues who require him to explain his extravagant lifestyle, and his unusual client base, which is exclusively from the insurance industry. But what they really must learn is - as a result of the investigation of Hudson’s murder at the money management company - how is he going to stop the house of cards from falling in on them all.
It had been a dangerous game that Lee Connor played with other people’s money and his retribution would be exact.
Review: Land of the Blind is a captivating sundae of deception, treachery and disillusionment, topped off with murder and international terrorism. Perri Nash’s experiences in the investment industry make her the perfect tour guide through this fascinating voyage. July 27, 2006.
